A BaZi chart does not contain a “total reset” star. A clash, a new Luck Pillar or an unusually active annual year can show that an existing structure is under pressure, but none of those signals proves that the correct response is to overturn every part of life at once.

The technical distinction is between activation and carrying capacity. A year may activate career, money, identity or relocation very strongly while the ten-year Luck background is still building the resources needed to sustain a new direction. If the annual signal is mistaken for a complete structural mandate, the person can create more instability than the chart—or reality—can carry.

George Foreman's second boxing career provides an unusually clean comparison because he did not return from a ten-year retirement and immediately reclaim the heavyweight title. Inside one Great Luck cycle he reached a title fight, lost, continued working, and only years later won the championship. The same decade contained both a failed title attempt and the historic result.

Case data: George Foreman

George Edward Foreman was born January 10, 1949, at 9:15 p.m. in Marshall, Texas. Astro-Databank records the data as BC/BR in hand, Rodden AA. January 1949 used Central Standard Time, so there is no daylight-saving correction. The recorded civil time is in the Hai double-hour, but Marshall lies west of the standard meridian and a true-solar-time correction can move 9:15 p.m. close to, or slightly before, the 9:00 p.m. Xu/Hai boundary. For that reason, the hour pillar is explicitly downweighted. The stable first three pillars carry the analysis. ([Astro-Databank](https://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Foreman%2C_George))

Under the recorded civil-time convention, the working Four Pillars are:

Wu-Zi | Yi-Chou | Geng-Zi | Ding-Hai 戊子|乙丑|庚子|丁亥

A true-solar convention may instead yield a Bing-Xu hour. Nothing below depends on choosing between those two hour pillars.

Geng Metal is born in Chou month. Wu Indirect Resource is exposed on the year stem, while Yi Direct Wealth is exposed on the month stem. Both the Year and Day Branches are Zi, each containing Gui Hurting Officer. Chou contains Ji Direct Resource, Gui Hurting Officer and Xin Rob Wealth.

The stable chart therefore already contains a strong tension among Resource, Output and Wealth. The repeated Zi branches make Output structurally important, while the seasonal Chou branch stores both support and Output. Zi and Chou also form Zi-Chou Liuhe, and because Zi is repeated, the seasonal branch is tied into more than one natal position. This is not a chart that can be reduced to “strong will” or “comeback energy.” It is a chart in which output, support and material goals have to be reorganized repeatedly.

Ji-Si Great Luck: the comeback becomes a decade-long structure

Foreman is a man born in a Yang-stem year, so Great Luck proceeds forward. Using the next sectional solar term and the traditional three-days-to-one-year conversion places the start around age eight. The working sequence is approximately:

Bing-Yin → Ding-Mao → Wu-Chen → Ji-Si → Geng-Wu……

His major 1991 and 1994 title attempts occurred during Ji-Si Great Luck. Ji is Direct Resource for Geng Metal. Si contains Bing Seven Killings, Wu Indirect Resource and Geng Peer. The decade therefore reinforces support and self-capacity while also bringing competitive Authority pressure directly into the Luck branch.

This matters because Foreman's return to boxing had already begun in 1987, near the transition into this Great Luck. Reuters records that he came back after a ten-year absence, then won 24 consecutive fights before challenging Evander Holyfield in 1991. The public chronology is not one dramatic reset; it is several years of rebuilding before the first major title attempt. ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/sports/american-boxing-legend-george-foreman-dead-76-family-says-2025-03-22/))

1991 Xin-Wei: a major attempt does not equal a completed turnaround

In 1991 Foreman challenged Evander Holyfield for the heavyweight championship and lost a 12-round decision. Reuters describes the loss after Foreman's 24-fight comeback winning streak. ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/sports/american-boxing-legend-george-foreman-dead-76-family-says-2025-03-22/))

The annual year was Xin-Wei. Xin is Rob Wealth. Wei contains Ji Direct Resource, Ding Direct Officer and Yi Direct Wealth. Annual Wei directly clashes natal Chou, while it also forms Zi-Wei harm with both repeated natal Zi branches. Ji-Si Great Luck remains the decade background, so Resource and competitive pressure are already active before the annual layer arrives.

This is a structurally intense year: Resource, Wealth, Authority and Peer forces are all involved, and the seasonal Chou position is directly moved by Wei. Yet the verified outcome was not the title. That alone is enough to reject the idea that a strongly activated year must deliver the most desired result.

The event was still part of the turnaround process. Foreman went the distance against the undefeated champion and remained a viable contender. But “significant progress” and “final reversal” are not the same event.

1994 Jia-Xu: same Great Luck, different annual structure, different result

Foreman remained in Ji-Si Great Luck in 1994. The annual year was Jia-Xu. Jia is Indirect Wealth. Xu contains Wu Indirect Resource, Xin Rob Wealth and Ding Direct Officer. Annual Xu and natal Chou form two branches of the traditional Chou-Wei-Xu punishment system; the same Ji-Si decade continues to supply Resource, competitive pressure and a Peer root.

On November 5, 1994, Foreman knocked out the undefeated Michael Moorer and regained the heavyweight championship at age 45, becoming the oldest heavyweight champion at the time. Reuters records the historic result. ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/sports/american-boxing-legend-george-foreman-dead-76-family-says-2025-03-22/))

The technical comparison with 1991 is the point of the case. The Great Luck did not change. Foreman's natal chart did not change. Both years strongly involved Resource, Wealth, Peer and Authority material, yet one ended in a decision loss and the other in a title-winning knockout.

The difference cannot be assigned to one branch. Between those dates were additional fights, training, tactical adjustment, accumulated public credibility and a different opponent. BaZi can show that the same decade kept the competitive and self-support structure highly active. It cannot convert that fact into “1994 was guaranteed to win.”

Why forcing a turnaround can create more blockage

The first problem is confusing annual activation with ten-year direction. An annual clash can make movement urgent without making every exit sustainable. If the Great Luck has not yet built enough Resource, Wealth structure or external support, a dramatic move may simply remove the remaining stability.

The second problem is trying to change too many structural layers at once. Career, cash flow, residence, partnership and identity are not interchangeable. Each has its own real-world dependencies. When several are dismantled simultaneously, the Day Master's carrying problem becomes practical rather than symbolic.

Third, the chart has to distinguish Output from infrastructure. Strong Output can create action, visibility and momentum. It does not automatically create money, regulation, team support or a durable platform. Foreman's comeback required years of actual fights before a title result reappeared.

Finally, similar symbols do not reproduce identical events. In 1991 and 1994, Foreman was in the same Ji-Si Great Luck. The decade remained favorable for examining competition, support and rebuilding, but different annual configurations and different real-world conditions produced different outcomes.

The answer

Trying to force a total life turnaround can leave someone more stuck when the size of the action exceeds the structure available to sustain it. In BaZi, the key questions are not “Is this a change year?” but: What can the natal chart carry? What is the Great Luck making persistent for ten years? What exactly is the annual year activating? Has the real-world infrastructure for the new direction already been built?

George Foreman's chronology is useful because the comeback was real long before the championship returned. The 1991 title attempt failed; the 1994 title attempt succeeded; both occurred inside the same Great Luck. A turnaround was therefore a process of repeated activation and accumulated capacity, not a single symbolic command.

BaZi can identify periods in which an old structure is being reorganized and can distinguish a temporary annual shock from a longer-term change in emphasis. It cannot order someone to resign, relocate, borrow money, end a relationship or bet everything on one year.
