BaZi cannot identify a liar. There is no Ten God that proves dishonesty, sincerity, criminality or moral character. A person can sound coherent and convincing while the underlying statement is false; another can communicate poorly and still be completely reliable. Those are evidentiary questions, not symbolic deductions.

What BaZi can examine is narrower: how expression, exchange, regulation and carrying capacity interact. Output can describe how strongly something is expressed. Wealth can show where exchange and material interest enter the structure. Officer/Killings can represent external rules and accountability, while Resource can participate in information, support and system continuity. None of those forces, alone or in combination, proves whether a statement is true.

The distinction becomes particularly important when a promise begins to cost something. Saying something and sustaining it under financial, regulatory, reputational or opportunity cost are different functions. A serious reading therefore asks whether Output remains connected to a structure capable of carrying consequence rather than translating strong Output into a personality judgment.

Case data: Richard Branson

Richard Charles Nicholas Branson was born July 18, 1950, at 7:00 a.m. in Blackheath, London, England. Astro-Databank rates the data A, from memory, and explicitly records the time under daylight saving. That clock detail matters. The recorded 7:00 a.m. is exactly where a civil-clock reading could become hour-boundary sensitive. Removing the one-hour daylight-saving offset gives approximately 6:00 a.m. standard time. Blackheath lies almost on the Greenwich meridian, and a true-solar correction moves the time only a few minutes earlier. Both readings remain inside the Mao double-hour.

On that convention, the working Four Pillars are:

Geng-Yin | Gui-Wei | Jia-Yin | Ding-Mao 庚寅｜癸未｜甲寅｜丁卯

Branson is a man born in a Yang-stem year, so Great Luck proceeds forward. Using the next sectional solar node and the traditional three-days-to-one-year conversion places the start at roughly age six years eleven months. The relevant sequence is approximately:

Jia-Shen → Yi-You → Bing-Xu → Ding-Hai → Wu-Zi → Ji-Chou → Geng-Yin → Xin-Mao…

The 2004 launch of Virgin Galactic falls in Wu-Zi Great Luck; the 2014 SpaceShipTwo accident falls in Ji-Chou Great Luck; Branson’s 2021 Unity 22 flight and Virgin Galactic’s first commercial flight in 2023 both fall in Geng-Yin Great Luck.

The natal structure: expression, exchange and accountability are all present

Branson is a Jia Wood Day Master born in Wei month. Geng on the year stem is Seven Killings, Gui on the month stem is Direct Resource, and Ding on the hour stem is Hurting Officer. The two Yin branches contain Jia, Bing and Wu; Wei contains Ji, Ding and Yi; Mao contains Yi.

The stable picture is not a “persuasive-personality chart.” It is a structure in which several different functions are already present at once. Ding Hurting Officer makes Output visible. Geng Seven Killings makes external pressure, standards and accountability visible. Gui Direct Resource participates in information and support. Wealth exists inside Yin and Wei, while the Day Master is strongly rooted through two Yin branches and Mao. Mao and Wei also form a half-combination toward Wood.

That means expression cannot be read in isolation from the rest of the system. Ding Fire can act on Geng Metal, while Geng Metal can feed the Gui Resource line before Resource returns support to Wood. Exchange, rules, support and Output are therefore structurally connected rather than reducible to a single symbol.

None of this tells us whether Branson was sincere when he described the future of commercial space travel. Only the public record can answer what he said and what later happened.

2004: a clear public timetable enters the real world

At the launch of Virgin Galactic in September 2004, Branson announced a licensing deal to build a commercial spaceflight business. Contemporary reporting stated that commercial flights were expected by 2007–08, and the early plan envisaged creating thousands of new astronauts within the first five years. This is exactly the kind of statement that must be separated into two layers. The first layer is expression: a public vision, a timetable, a price and a proposed operating model. The second layer is execution: spacecraft development, testing, certification, financing, safety systems, training and the ability to carry paying customers in reality.

The timing was Wu-Zi Great Luck, Jia-Shen year. Wu is Indirect Wealth and Zi contains Gui Direct Resource. Zi forms Zi–Mao punishment with natal Mao and Zi–Wei harm with natal Wei. Annual Shen contains Geng Seven Killings, Ren Resource and Wu Wealth, while Shen directly clashes both natal Yin branches.

Those interactions show why this period is more complex than “strong Output means convincing speech.” Exchange and resources are active, but so are major branch movements and external-pressure components. The chart can describe a highly mobilized project environment. It cannot certify the forecast.

The factual result is straightforward: the 2007–08 commercial timetable was not achieved. Virgin Galactic did not complete its inaugural commercial spaceflight until June 2023. 2014: the project meets a hard operational consequence

A decade later, the problem was no longer whether the project sounded ambitious. It was whether a real vehicle, flown under real test conditions, could safely carry the system forward.

On October 31, 2014, SpaceShipTwo broke up during a rocket-powered test flight. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board records that the vehicle was destroyed, the copilot was killed and the pilot was seriously injured. The NTSB later identified the probable cause as Scaled Composites’ failure to protect against the possibility that a single human error could create a catastrophic hazard, setting the stage for premature unlocking of the feather system. Those findings belong to engineering evidence and investigation. They are not BaZi conclusions.

Astrologically, the event occurred in Ji-Chou Great Luck, Jia-Wu year. Ji is Direct Wealth. Chou carries Wealth, Resource and Direct Officer and directly clashes natal Wei. Annual Wu contains Ding Hurting Officer and Ji Direct Wealth. Wu simultaneously combines natal Wei while the decade Chou is clashing it, and Wu also forms a destruction relationship with natal Mao. With natal Yin, Wu additionally strengthens the Fire / Output tendency without completing a full Fire frame.

The useful point is not that one clash “means an accident.” It is that a project that began as public presentation had entered a stage where technical carrying capacity, operational procedure and consequence were no longer abstract. The NTSB tells us what failed. The chart only gives a timing structure in which Output, Wealth, support and rule pressure were being reorganized together.

2021: a promise becomes a testable personal milestone

By 2021, Virgin Galactic had still not begun commercial passenger service, but the project had reached a materially different stage.

On July 11, 2021, Branson flew aboard Unity 22. Virgin Galactic described the mission as its first fully crewed test flight and said Branson would undergo the same training, preparation and flight experience intended for future astronauts. Reuters independently reported that the flight reached space and returned safely. The company still described commercial service as a later step, at that point expecting it after additional testing. The timing was Geng-Yin Great Luck, Xin-Chou year. Geng Seven Killings repeats the natal Geng, while the Luck branch Yin repeats a major natal root. Annual Xin is Direct Officer, so Officer and Killings are simultaneously visible across the year and decade. Chou again clashes natal Wei and carries Wealth, Resource and Officer internally.

A mechanical reading might be tempted to turn that into “Officer means successful certification” or “Killings means danger.” Neither statement is defensible. The reality node is simpler: the project now produced a verified, full-crew test in which Branson himself participated. That is a different level of execution from a launch announcement.

2023: commercial delivery is finally verified

The Great Luck remained Geng-Yin, but 2023 was Gui-Mao. Gui Direct Resource repeats the natal month stem Gui. Mao repeats natal Mao and renews the Mao–Wei half-combination toward Wood.

On June 29, 2023, Virgin Galactic completed Galactic 01, which the company identified in its financial reporting as its inaugural commercial spaceflight. Reuters likewise reported it as the company’s first flight carrying paying customers to the edge of space. That distinction matters. The original commercial timetable had been missed by many years. A severe test failure had intervened. A founder test flight had later demonstrated a major operational milestone. Only in 2023 did the project cross the specific threshold of completed commercial service.

None of those facts lets us travel backward and declare what Branson “really meant” in 2004. A missed forecast does not automatically prove dishonesty, just as eventual delivery does not retroactively make every earlier timetable accurate. What the record does allow us to say is that public presentation and verified delivery were separated by a long, costly and technically difficult execution chain.

Why persuasive expression and reliable execution must remain separate

Output can make expression forceful, detailed or coherent. It does not verify the content. Wealth can place a vision into commercial exchange; it does not prove that the business can deliver on schedule. Officer/Killings can represent regulation, standards and accountability; their presence does not guarantee compliance or successful execution. Resource can represent information, systems and support; it does not guarantee that the underlying forecast is accurate.

That is why BaZi cannot answer “Is this person sincere?” The technically defensible question is whether expression is connected to a structure capable of carrying cost, rules, resources and consequence—and how that relationship changes under Great Luck and annual years.

The Branson chronology is useful because it contains several different kinds of reality outcome without requiring any moral inference. A confident public forecast in 2004 was not delivered on its original schedule. The project suffered a severe operational failure in 2014. Branson personally completed a full-crew test milestone in 2021. Commercial service was finally achieved in 2023. The evidence establishes those distinctions. The chart does not establish his character.

The answer

When someone sounds completely sincere but repeatedly fails when consequences arrive, BaZi does not justify calling them a liar based on one symbol. The structure to examine is whether Output is connected to a workable chain of exchange, accountability, support and carrying capacity, and whether Great Luck and annual years are intensifying tension among those functions.

Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic timeline shows why that distinction matters. Public confidence can arrive long before a system is capable of delivering. Technical setbacks can radically alter what is possible. Later execution can still occur after earlier timetables fail. Even within the same Great Luck, different annual years can correspond to very different stages of the same project.

BaZi can therefore help separate expression from execution and identify periods when claims, money, systems and external rules are simultaneously under greater structural pressure. It cannot decide whether a statement is true. That judgment belongs to evidence, records and behavior.
